Almost burned the house down!
And I am NOT kidding!
I was up at the cabin, supposedly for a week, to clean up the place before the contractors came to do the bathroom and flooring. I turned on the heat pump, and then decided to turn on the heater in the bathroom to warm it up a bit. A few hours later, I lost power to the cabin. I first thought that it was an outage, but the power company called to let me know that there was plenty of power coming to the pole.
So, I had an electrician come out and he determined the following:
1. I had two 100 amp services going to each side of the building, but
2. I only had 100 amps coming into the main panel.
All of this means I needed to upgrade to 200amp services as soon as could be done. I did do some investigation and the cost would range between $2500 to $5000 to upgrade the service.
I got a quote, which I agreed to (I mean, whaddyagonnado!) and waited to hear when things would start rolling.
Turns out, I had to call the power company to turn power off, at which point the electrician could do the upgrade and all associated work; once he was done, the power company would need to come back out to inspect and then turn the power back on.
The work done was amazing.
I wish I had taken before and after pics.
